“EMPLEANDO.NOS” On the job training.

Description

OBJECTIVES

  • To structure the processes of educational and training activities based on global actions to break the vicious circle established between low or no training and experience with the first job.
  • To work with local companies to value the skills of disadvantaged young people, from the knowledge and job sharing and from the adequacy of training to the real needs of business environment.
  • To improve the quality of life and the expectatives of integration of young people at risk of social exclusion.
  • To support a more equitable, supportive and non-discriminatory society
  • To reduce the need for public administrations to support social aid situations that can be solved with the integration of the most disadvantaged in society through the employment and their participation as active citizens.

Training activities in Fundación Adsis training centers and in local companies (on-the-job training). 1000h

Personal accompaniment (100h)

The actions are linked to three important areas: (1) young people themselves, (2) their families and (3) local companies.

  1. Career guidance and personalized support both in training and attitudinal development. Signed commitment to accept their training in workplaces and knowledge of the duties and rights that occurred in. Once the process of practices is started, monitoring is produced extensively with monthly meetings at the Centre and in the company.
  2. Involvement of the families in the process, keeping them informed continuously and personalized form of the evolution of their youngsters. This information should preferably be at least face and telephone and must be made on a monthly basis. Before starting the process, a formal meeting with the families is held showing them the importance of their support, but indicating the need for autonomy in managing of the youngsters.
  3. With companies continuously throughout the year to maintain a quarterly newsletter in which they are informed of our projects and the possibility of collaboration with the center. Center visits, visits to the companies by young people, lectures, etc. During the process, monitoring monthly with them; support that is extended in time as long as the company need any information on procurement.

RESULTS

Regarding youngsters:

– Reduced leaving rate during practices and reduced conflicts due to inadequated attitudes.

– Perception of the process as an opportunity for the development of personal and professional curriculum.

– 95% of successful implementation of practices (training in workplaces)

Regarding families:

– High level of satisfaction measured by surveys.

– More closeness between the center and families, so shared action plans with youngsters.

Regarding companies:

– Improved level of general satisfaction.

– Higher involvement of local business in the workplace training process.

– The nearest monitoring has been properly perceived, so prevention of difficulties and conflicts and improved intervention.

The Adsis Foundation was created April 16, 1996, according to the law 30/1994.

Our mission is to construct a fairer and unified society by means of integral promotion of impoverished and marginalized individuals and groups. We wish to carry out this work through the development processes of both the individual and collective groups, which is based on close relationships, solidarity, and efficient service.

We would like to propose involvement with the youth, and put into action, together with other individuals and organizations, social action, and education programmes, and development cooperation.

Vision: The Adsis Foundation is an organization that has deepened and fulfilled the development of their mission, being distinguished for their work with the youth and has put into action partnerships of people with high standards of performance. In that affect, lead actors have joined Adsis, and have helped Adsis revise and improve the Foundation’s projects, to generate a major social impact, and strengthen the application of the Foundation’s social center, especially the involvement of volunteers.

Focused on

  • Training experience in workplaces.
  • Work in 4 fields:
  1. With young people, through group tutorials and individual support from carrying out a personal insertion itinerary.
  2. With families, through increasing their liability in the transmission of values.
  3. With local companies, through an analysis of training needs and a close monitoring.
  4. With the wider community by offering training and encouragement to people who are suffering situations of social disadvantage.

 

 

Target group

Target group

  • Youngsters aged 15 to 18 who have not passed Compulsory Secondary Education and have educational, personal and social difficulties.
  • Youngsters’ families.
  • Local businesses with experience of employing young jobseekers

Selection criteria

  • Youngsters: They come to the center from different educational centers in the municipality, as well as from municipality social services and from penitentiary and courts. The only criteria are the age: cannot exceed 18 years and have not passed Compulsory Secondary Education. In case there is more demand than places available, priority is given to older youth.
  • Regarding companies, selection is based on the professional sectors of developed training and generally headed to medium and small companies.

 

 

Methodology

Holistic intervention and accompaniment in the process towards employment of young people with fewer opportunities. Not only at professions professional, but also at personal level: from a diagnosis of the initial situation of each youngster, through a close and permanent relationship, working his/her employability and social insertion, focusing on his/her person, environment, relationship with the educational and institutional systems and workplace.
Regarding on-the-job training, the agreements are made with small and medium local enterprises and entrepreneurs, Practices regarding the process itself, innovation is given as to the identification of each experience. We are not starting agreements with large companies, if not we seek individualized entrepreneurs, with a close monitoring and giving importance to value the youngsters skills and collect the needs and interests of each company to adapt training to those interests.

Funding is provided by the Department of Education of the Basque Government, Fundación Adsis own funds and Obra Social La Caixa.

 

Partners

Within the territory there are many actors involved in the process:

  • From the educational fieeld: the regional administration through the department of education of the Basque Government, and all officials employed and agencies that depend on it such as high schools, adult education centers, VET centers, municipal pedagogical orientation center, etc.
  • From the institutional field, social servicies departments of different municipalities around Vitoria.
  • At provincial/regional level: Provincial Institute of Social Welfare (Provincial Council of Alava)
  • More than 150 local/regional companies, highlighting Gerdau SA and its Corporate Volunteerism Project.
  • With third sector: participation in discussion forums with different associations and entities created by municipality for different sectors (youth participation, employment, etc.), highlighting the current cooperation agreement with Association Itaka.

Evaluation and swot analysis

  • Satisfaction surveys of involved users (students, families, local companies), leading guidance for improvement.
  • Collecting objective data regarding employment levels and possible new market niches for the insertion of young people.

Transferrable elements for replicability:

  • Experience in working with disadvantaged young people
  • Knowledge of the reality of social vulnerability and context resources to address these situations.
  • Settled relations with municipal resources and collaborative work with the business community.

Impact and exploitation of the results

Impact:

According to Save the Children Report (Nov. 2013) the correlation analysis between educational attainment of parents and children suggests that people from disadvantaged families continue to face significant obstacles in achieving their full potential and better living standards. The impact we want to achieve long term is to reduce these obstacles, through a comprehensive intervention with users and families, improving their employability and social inclusion.

Exploitation effective results:

An annual report is collected and a monitoring of the youngsters is developed, not only at the end the process but also at 6 months and one year ended. Thus, it is possible to establish relationship of recruitment index and situation of youngsters once training and work experience processes are completed.
